### How many 4-letter English words are on this list?

This page lists 865 of them. The set comes from the CEFR-J Vocabulary Profile and the Octanove C1/C2 profile, so it is the vocabulary English courses actually teach rather than every string in a dictionary.

### Why are two-word entries missing?

Only single runs of letters are counted. "all right" and "CD player" are real vocabulary, but neither is a 4-letter word, so they stay on the level lists and out of this one.

### Are these words graded by level?

Yes. Every word on this page also belongs to a CEFR level from A1 to C2, and its own page states which one. Open a word to see its meaning, an example sentence and its level.
