## English word lists by level: FAQ

Common questions about CEFR-level vocabulary lists.

### How many words do I need at each level?

Rough research-based targets: A1 ~500, A2 ~1,000, B1 ~2,000, B2 ~4,000, C1 ~8,000, C2 ~16,000 word families. These pages list every word the CEFR-J Vocabulary Profile grades at each level, 8,640 in total, so they cover the graded core rather than a sample of it.

### How should I study a word list?

Do not read it top to bottom repeatedly. Take 5-10 words, use each in a spoken sentence the same day, then review with spaced repetition. In VocaFlare, words you miss in conversation become flashcards automatically.

### How do I know my level?

Take the free English level test on this site; it takes 3 minutes and maps your result to the CEFR scale, so you know which list to start with.

### Can I download these lists?

Yes. Every level has a Download PDF button that gives you the whole list, formatted for printing, with meanings in your language and an example sentence for each word.
