# IELTS単語帳：Band 7+を取る50の学術英単語

## はじめに

[IELTS](https://vocaflare.com/ja/eigo/tango) Writingを練習して数ヶ月が経ちました。エッセイの構造は分かっている。質問のタイプも理解している。しかしポイントがBand 6や6.5から上がらない。

このレベルで止まる人の一番の理由は語彙力の不足です。Examinerはただ文法が正しいかだけでなく、見慣れた単語を自然に、正しいコロケーションで、正確な意味で使えるかを見ています。Band 6とBand 7のLexical Resourceの差は、一見簡単そうに見えて適切に使うのが難しい単語によって決まります。

この記事では、エッセイの機能別に整理した50の学術単語を公開します。各語には意味と、実践のIELTS Task 2を反映した例文があります。グループで学んで、自身のエッセイで練習して、Lexical Resourceポイントを上げましょう。

## この50の単語の選び方

全ての「センセーショナル」な単語がIELTSに良いとは限りません。見かけは印象的だけど、時間制約のある試験で自然に使うのは難しいものもあります。この50の単語は以下のポイントで選ばれました：

- 論争的で議論的なエッセイに自然に合う
- Examinerがよく見る簡単な単語 (good, bad, important, cause) を置き換える
- 様々なトピック (教育、環境、技術、社会) で使える
- 珍しすぎて不自然に見えるものも含まない

各語は五つの機能カテゴリーに分かれています。アルファベットではなく、カテゴリー毎に覚えてください。そうすることで、使う場面で単語を呼び出せるようになります。

## カテゴリー1: 論争と説得の単語

IELTSでは、ほとんどの時間を論理を組み立てて過ごします。この単語は自分の意見をハッキリ言ったり、反対意見に応えたりするのに役立ちます。

### 1. Advocate

_動詞_：ある考えや政策を強く支持する・推奨する。

**例:** Many environmentalists **advocate** for stricter regulations on single-use plastics to reduce ocean pollution.

"Support"の代わりに使って、もっとフォーマルで確信のある感じを出す。

### 2. Contend

_動詞_：ある事が真実だと議論の中で主張する。

**例:** Some experts **contend** that remote work reduces productivity, while others argue the opposite.

エッセイの始めに、議論を紹介する時に完璧です。

### 3. Substantiate

_動詞_：主張を支持する証拠を提供する。

**例:** The report fails to **substantiate** its claim that technology improves educational outcomes for all age groups.

Examinerが大好きな単語。主張には証拠が必要だと理解している事を示す。

### 4. Refute

_動詞_：ある主張や考えが間違っている事を証明する。

**例:** The study **refutes** the common belief that multitasking saves time by demonstrating a 40 percent drop in efficiency.

反対論の段落で使う。"Disagree with"より強い。

### 5. Concede

_動詞_：ある事が正しいと認める。その後に反対する前に。

**例:** While we must **concede** that social media connects people globally, its negative effects on mental health cannot be ignored.

Band 7+のテクニック。反対側を理解してから批判するのは成熟した考え方の表れ。

### 6. Reiterate

_動詞_：繰り返す。強調のためであることが多い。

**例:** I **reiterate** that without significant investment in public transport, urban traffic congestion will continue to worsen.

結論で主要ポイントを強調するのに使う。

### 7. Presume

_動詞_：ある事が正しいと仮定する。

**例:** It would be a mistake to **presume** that all young people are naturally skilled with technology.

ニュアンスを加える。事実を主張しているのではなく、間違った仮定を指摘している。

### 8. Postulate

_動詞_：ある事を推論の基礎として提案する。

**例:** Some economists **postulate** that universal basic income could replace traditional welfare systems.

エッセイで理論や仮説を紹介する時のハイレベルな単語。

### 9. Corroborate

_動詞_：主張や発見を確認する。

**例:** Interviews with teachers **corroborate** the survey findings that class sizes directly affect student performance.

"Agree with"より強い。一つの証拠が別の証拠を支える時に使う。

### 10. Assert

_動詞_：ある事を確信を持ってハッキリ言う。

**例:** Critics **assert** that standardized testing fails to measure true student ability.

Topic sentenceで段落の主要論理を紹介するのに使う。

## カテゴリー2: 原因と結果の単語

IELTS Task 2では、よく原因と結果を論じるように指示されます。この単語は何がなぜ起こるか、そして何が起こるかを説明するのに役立ちます。

### 11. Consequently

_副詞_：ある事の結果として。

**例:** Urban populations are growing rapidly; **consequently**, demand for affordable housing has reached unprecedented levels.

"So"や"as a result"の代わり。文の始めで使う。

### 12. Thereby

_副詞_：その手段で；その行為の結果として。

**例:** The government increased funding for renewable energy, **thereby** reducing the country's dependence on fossil fuels.

行為と結果を結ぶ。知的でフォーマル。

### 13. Engender

_動詞_：ある感情や状況を引き起こす。

**例:** Strict parenting styles often **engender** anxiety in children rather than building resilience.

"Cause"より正確。感情や社会的状況について話す時に使う。

### 14. Exacerbate

_動詞_：悪い状況を更に悪くする。

**例:** Delaying climate action will only **exacerbate** the economic damage caused by extreme weather events.

問題解決のエッセイに必ず必要。"Make worse"より強い。

### 15. Mitigate

_動詞_：ある事の害や重大さを減らす。

**例:** Planting more trees in urban areas can **mitigate** the effects of air pollution.

Exacerbateの反対。解決策を話す時に使う。

### 16. Facilitate

_動詞_：プロセスを容易にする。

**例:** Online learning platforms **facilitate** access to education for students in remote areas.

"Make easier"や"help"の代わり。技術や教育のエッセイに良く合う。

### 17. Hinder

_動詞_：障害を作って、進歩を遅くするか止める。

**例:** A lack of funding **hinders** scientific research in developing countries.

Facilitateの反対。バリアや挑戦について話す時に使う。

### 18. Stem from

_動詞句_：ある事から起こる。

**例:** Many social problems **stem from** economic inequality rather than cultural differences.

学術文書に自然で普遍的な表現。根本原因の議論に最適。

### 19. Prompt

_動詞_：ある行為を促す。

**例:** Rising fuel prices have **prompted** consumers to switch to electric vehicles.

人間の決定や行動の変化を話す時に使う。

### 20. Culminate in

_動詞句_：プロセスの終わりにある結果に達する。

**例:** Years of underinvestment in education **culminated in** a skills shortage that affected the entire economy.

結論や長期的な結果を説明する時に強い。

## カテゴリー3: 比較と対照の単語

考えを比較し、プラスマイナスを測って、対照を示すのはIELTS Task 2の中心です。この単語はそれを正確にやるのに役立ちます。

### 21. Conversely

_副詞_：反対に、それに対して。

**例:** Urban areas offer more job opportunities; **conversely**, rural areas provide a higher quality of life and lower stress.

"On the other hand"よりフォーマル。対照する考えの前に置く。

### 22. Likewise

_副詞_：同じように、類似して。

**例:** Regular exercise improves physical health and **likewise** benefits mental well-being.

前のポイントを支える類似ポイントを追加する時に使う。

### 23. Whereas

_接続詞_：二つの事を比較して違いを示す。

**例:** **Whereas** older generations prefer face-to-face communication, younger people are more comfortable with digital interactions.

グループ、時期、状況を比較するのに一つでできる。

### 24. Nonetheless

_副詞_：にもかかわらず。

**例:** The policy has several drawbacks; **nonetheless**, its overall impact on public health has been positive.

前の文が問題を提示したが、それらにかかわらず良い点を強調する時に使う。

### 25. Albeit

_接続詞_：だが。

**例:** The solution is effective, **albeit** expensive to implement.

知的で洗練された表現。"Although it is"が一つの単語に。文の中で使う。

### 26. Dissimilar

_形容詞_：同じでない。

**例:** The education systems in Finland and the United States are markedly **dissimilar** in their approach to standardized testing.

"Different"よりフォーマル。"Markedly"と一緒に使う。

### 27. Disparity

_名詞_：著しい違い。しばしば不公正を伴う。

**例:** There is a growing **disparity** between the incomes of high-skilled and low-skilled workers.

### 28. Notwithstanding

_前置詞_：にもかかわらず。

_形容詞_：違う方向へ発展する。

## カテゴリー4: 分析と評価の単語

この単語はデータを解釈し、証拠を検証し、判断を下すのに役立ちます。特にTask 1で有効ですが、全てのIELTS Writingで使えます。

### 31. Demonstrate

_動詞_：証拠や推論でハッキリ示す。

**例:** Research **demonstrates** that students who read regularly perform better in writing assessments.

"Show"よりフォーマル。一番使い易いアカデミック単語の一つ。

### 32. Illustrate

_動詞_：例を使って説明する。

**例:** The graph **illustrates** the sharp decline in newspaper readership between 2010 and 2020.

Task 1でデータ説明に完璧。

### 33. Indicate

_動詞_：直接言わないで指示や提案をする。

**例:** Survey results **indicate** that a majority of employees prefer flexible working hours.

データがトレンドを提示しているが、完全に証明していない時に使う。

### 34. Imply

_動詞_：直接言わずに暗示する。

**例:** The author **implies** that economic growth alone cannot solve social inequality.

"Say"よりニュアンス。資料や論理が何を暗示しているか話す時。

### 35. Infer

_動詞_：証拠に基づいて結論を導く。

**例:** From the data provided, we can **infer** that consumer confidence has been steadily increasing.

Implyと対になる単語。書き手が暗示する；読み手が推論する。

### 36. Validate

_動詞_：真実や正確さを確認する。

**例:** Further studies are needed to **validate** the initial findings of this research.

証拠の信頼性を議論する時に使う。

### 37. Scrutinize

_動詞_：精細に調査する。

**例:** Critics have **scrutinized** the government's education policy and found several inconsistencies.

"Examine"より強い。詳細な分析が問題を明らかにする時。

### 38. Elucidate

_動詞_：前もって不明だった事を明らかにする。

**例:** The report **elucidates** the complex relationship between urban planning and public health.

Task 1でグラフが何を意味するか説明する時の強い単語。

### 39. Quantify

_動詞_：ある事を数字で表す。

**例:** It is difficult to **quantify** the long-term social benefits of early childhood education.

### 40. Underpin

_動詞_：ある事の基礎を成す。

**例:** A strong education system **underpins** economic development in any modern society.

エッセイの基礎を築くための機能。

## カテゴリー5: 強調と資格の単語

時には主張の強さを示したり、限定を入れたりが必要です。この単語はトーンを調節し、もっと正確に表現するのに役立ちます。

### 41. Significantly

_副詞_：著しく大きく。

**例:** The number of students studying abroad has increased **significantly** over the past decade.

過剰に言わずに重要データを強調するのに。

### 42. Predominantly

_副詞_：主として。

**例:** The workforce in the technology sector is **predominantly** male, though this is slowly changing.

"Mostly"より正確。人口統計トレンドの説明に。

### 43. Inevitably

_副詞_：避けられない事として。

**例:** As automation replaces routine jobs, some workers will **inevitably** need to retrain.

### 44. Inherently

_副詞_：本質的に。

洗練された単語。興味のある矛盾を指摘する。Examinerが気付く。

## この単語をどのように使うか

50単語を知っていても、試験で自然に使えなければ意味がありません。次のように覚えましょう。

### 自身の例文を書く

ここの例文を読むだけではいけません。IELTSのトピックを使って (環境、教育、技術、社会、健康)、自分の文を書く。自分で書くことで神経回路が作られ、思い出しが早くなる。

### 機能別で覚える

アルファベットではなく、カテゴリー毎に覚える。反対論の段落を書く時に、頭が"concede," "refute," "nonetheless"を同じメンタルフォルダから呼び出せるようになる。

### 質を重視する

一つのエッセイで50単語全部を使う必要はない。無理に使うと不自然になる。自分のスタイルに合う8から10を選んで、自然に使えるまで練習。時間と共に増やしていく。

### コロケーションに気を付ける

Examinerは、単語を知っているかだけでなく、正しい組み合わせで使えるかもチェックしている。"Substantiate a claim"はOK。"Substantiate a feeling"はNG。各語が他の動詞や名詞とよく使われるかを意識する。

## 結論

Band 6からBand 7への段階は、500の飾り単語を覚える事ではない。正しい50単語を覚えて、文脈で正しく使う事だ。このリストの単語はTask 2で必要な機能：論争、原因結果、比較、分析、そして強調をカバーしている。

毎週一つのカテゴリーに集中する。10の単語を自然に使えるまで練習。その単語を使った完全なエッセイを書く。五つのカテゴリーを終えたら、Lexical Resourceポイントが伸びている。

Band 6のエッセイとBand 7のエッセイの差は、良く選んだ少しの単語による。この50がその差を作るものです。
