Your first 30 days of Spanish, step by step

  1. Day 1: find your starting point

Take the free Spanish level test, then open the word list for your level. Many people who took Spanish at school are not starting from zero.

  2. Days 2-7: say it the way it is written

Spanish is read almost exactly as it is spelled, with five clear vowels. Read every new word out loud from the first day; your AI language tutor corrects your pronunciation in private.

  3. Weeks 2-3: present tense and the words you need

Learn the present tense of ser, estar, tener and ir, plus the words you miss in conversation. They become flashcards and come back right before you forget them.

  4. Week 4: talk about yesterday

Add the past tense (fui, hice, tuve) and hold short conversations about your day. Daily streaks keep the routine alive; consistency is the whole game.

What makes Spanish easy, and what trips beginners up

Spanish rewards beginners quickly, then hits them with three things all at once. Knowing them in advance is half the work.

  • Pronunciation is your head start

Unlike English, Spanish spelling tells you how to say a word. If you can read it, you can say it, so you can start speaking on day one.

  • Every noun has a gender

El libro, la mesa. Learn every noun with its article from the start; fixing it later is much harder than learning it once.

  • Ser and estar both mean 'to be'

Ser for what something is, estar for how or where it is: soy cansado is wrong, estoy cansado is right. You learn the difference by using both, not by memorising rules.

  • Verbs change with every person

Hablo, hablas, habla, hablamos. Because the ending already says who is speaking, Spanish often drops the pronoun. Drill the endings out loud and they become automatic.
